LISTEN TO ANIMAL HUMOUR HERE:
The Tailors – Animal Humour by Trash Aesthetics

Released by Trash Aesthetics comes the superb second album by The Tailors, ‘Come Dig Me Up’, an album about hope, love….and dinosaurs! After losing the entire original effort at the second album due to a corrupted hard drive, the band, rather than just re record the tracks, have come up with nine songs filled with stories of generosity and ambition. My personal favourite is the title track ‘Come Dig Me Up’, the tale of a dinosaur making up with the love of his life before their extinction and apologising for his shortcomings, using wonderful lyrics such as ‘I’m sorry darling my arms couldn’t hold you, it’s not what they were made for and now it’s too late’.

The man behind such heart warming tales and lyrics is lead singer and guitarist Adam Killip, and has such a gentle, soft voice, with a tint of Neil Young, that even the most hardened character is able to take some optimism about life away with them after listening to this album. Opening track ‘Pictures Of Her’ is simply beautiful as Killip’s voice is accompanied with upbeat guitars and ‘ahhhing’ and ‘oooohing’ background vocals reminiscent of Elbow. Warming piano chords are also present throughout the album especially on third track ‘Animal Humour’ which just feels good to listen to. ‘Impossible Wonder’ is another highlight that musically has a touch of a Christmas carol to it but lyrically is a tale of lost love and the hope of regaining that love and contains amazing lines such as ‘call when you’re ready I hope I’ll be there and do not be sad, I’m over the pining, those tree top emotions, and fluttering feelings still fill up the ocean’.

The album closes out on rockier track ‘Flying Blues’ that does exactly what it says on the….song title. Blues lyrics soar throughout the track and are carried by fast moving guitars and drums.
‘Come Dig Me Up’ is a fantastic easy-listening album from a talented band in a similar mould to The Shins that presents to the listener some extremely good quality music and lyrics. Go dig it up!

7.5/10
